What Gradefully is

Gradefully is a digital gradebook and markbook for Ontario teachers, Grade 1 to 12. You build your own categories and weights, pick the grading scale you actually use (levels, percentages, points or letters), track learning skills and work habits, and attach a short note to any grade entry. At report-card time it drafts comments in Growing Success language from that evidence, and you review and edit every one before it goes anywhere.

It runs in French and in English, so a French-language classroom is not an afterthought. Your gradebook is stored in Canada on Microsoft Azure, encrypted in transit and at rest. AI drafting runs with OpenAI in the United States, and student names are replaced with codes before anything reaches the AI. Nothing you enter is used to train AI models.

From one teacher to another

Why I built this

I spent years trying to find a good system for managing my grades and feedback. Folders of graded assignments and tests. Spreadsheets full of complicated, fragile formulas for weighted averages. Post-it notes with observations about my students. At report-card time I would spend hours sifting through all of it to write a solid, personal, actionable comment for each student — and I noticed my colleagues all had the same problem. Ten to twenty hours per report-card session.

So I decided to do something about it, and I built Gradefully: one place where everything about a student's achievement lives — the grades and the feedback. Then I developed the AI systems that draft comments following the Ontario Ministry of Education's Growing Success criteria, while making sure student names are replaced with codes and personal details are stripped out before anything is sent to a third-party AI provider.

Now I have more time to actually teach — and to prep the next high-impact lab for my computer science classroom. My hope is that you get that time back too.
